The defenses of the first class of the Master II in “Gestion des Ressources Environnementales et Développement Durable” (GRE2D) took place from September 16 to 19, 2024 at the Centre Universitaire de Patsy. The DIDEM-Comores team, comprising Gilbert David and Nourddine Mirhani, took part in the jury as a partner of the program.

Of the 35 students enrolled in the second year of the program, 16 presented their end-of-study projects, carried out during their six-month internships in a professional environment. These works were part of one of the two courses offered by the master's program: “Sustainable Biodiversity Conservation” and “Environmental Planning and Management” (AGDE). Chaired by Gilbert David, the jury rigorously assessed the theses. An audience of teacher-researchers, students and family members attended the defenses.

On the morning of September 20, the final deliberation took place in the presence of the national media. After the deliberations, Gilbert David underlined the benefits of collaboration between the University of the Comoros and IRD, focusing on the crucial issues of environmental management. The Director of the Centre Anniversaire de Patsy, Dr. SOIFFAOUIDDINE Sidi, thanked the DiDEM team and emphasized that the research carried out will help to enlighten decision-makers on environmental and development issues.

It should be noted that this master's degree is distinguished by its interdisciplinary approach, combining natural and social sciences. It trains professionals capable of collecting and analyzing field data to establish environmental diagnoses, while supporting the implementation of public policies in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. The aim is also to enhance the skills of those involved in conservation and development, so as to fully integrate environmental issues into territorial planning and meet the growing challenges of the interface between society, nature and sustainable development.
